BVB is a member of the Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz (TNW) – the North-Western Switzerland Tariff Association. In addition to BVB, this comprises the transport companies: Baselland Transport AG (BLT), the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB [Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen]), PostAuto Schweiz AG and Autobus AG Liestal (AAGL).
The TNW determines the applicable fares on a yearly basis. You can find detailed information about TNW’s fares, here.
With a share of almost half of all sales revenue in the TNW, BVB is the largest partner in the TNW, followed by BLT and the SBB, each with approximately 20 percent. PostAuto and AAGL generate the remaining 10 percent. The revenue distribution between the individual transport companies and routes is based upon the number of passengers transported and the passenger-kilometres travelled. Every transport company is obliged to calculate the respective values according to strict rules. This is achieved using automatic passenger counting systems in the vehicles or via manual counts.
